Bush Stadium Seat Salvage
WE DIVERTED NEARLY 9000 PLASTIC AND ALUMINUM SEATS FROM A LOCAL LANDFILL.
DETAILS
In the spring of 2011, PUP was approached by Ecolaborative seeking to collaborate on the salvage of the grandstand seats from Indianapolis' Bush Stadium, former home of the Indianapolis Indians. Seeing the reuse potential, PUP and Ecolaborative envisioned refurbished seats populating public spaces throughout Indianapolis. To this end, we set out to divert nearly 9,000 seats from an Indianapolis landfill.
To make it happen, PUP worked closely with Indianapolis Fabrications and Recycle Force to safely remove, transport, dismantle, and store the seats. Since the seats were removed in 2012, we've sold them to the public, installed them at bus stops and along The Cultural Trail, and responsibly scrapped them. Proceeds ensure that the seats find new homes throughout the city, and help us invest in future salvage projects.
